MCA Green and Art Alley

Marygrove Community Association (MCA) is proud to work with the University of Michigan - Ann Arbor’s Graham Sustainability Institute and its Graham Scholars Program to design a green stormwater infrastructure improvement project for the alley that connects the Indiana Street Garden and Huntington Community Park.

MCA and the Graham Scholars will partner on community engagement, including education and raising awareness with residents about climate resiliency.

This project also includes an art component featuring murals and sculptures that help to tell the stories of community residents past, present, and future.

An alleyway transformed into a community space with a large container painted with a mural, potted plants, and interactive art. Children play soccer, a man sits reading, and a girl draws on the ground with chalk. Signage indicates a pathway to Huntington Community Park, and shade is provided by sail canopies. The mural promotes community art, and plantings facilitate rainwater collection and drainage.
